Tomorrow is *the start* of the *Fast of the Prophets* (Tsome Nebiyat) is one of the seven official fasting periods in the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, beginning on 15th Hedar (November 24) and *ending on Christmas Eve, 28th of Tahsas (January 6)*. This 44-day fast leads up to the Feast of the Nativity of Jesus Christ and is also known as *lidet Tsome or the Christmas Fast*, commemorating the fulfilment of the prophecy about Christ’s coming. The fast involves *abstaining* from meat, fat, eggs, and *dairy products*, as well as refraining from *wrongdoings and evil deeds.* It is a time for deeper repentance, prayer, and spiritual contemplation. All Orthodox Tewahedo Christians *over the age of 13* are expected to observe some of the fasts. The period emphasizes *overcoming earthly desires* and seeking a closer relationship with God.
